Weekend Discovery: Digital Camera World

Okay, for a blog whose title starts with “photo”, I’m a bit embarrassed to admit this…but with the sheer amount of pro and amateur photography sites out there in the triple-dub, I seem to have overlooked the awesomeness that is Digital Camera World. Specifically, the vast amount of resources, tutorials, news, information, and freebies (yay, freebies!!) that the site provides to budding and seasoned photogs alike. The online home of Digital Camera Magazine, Digital Camera World provides everything from DSLR reviews, to creative inspiration for photos, to basic photography tutorials on things like composition, lighting and using the gear, to pro tips from the folks who have been around the block a few times, and have the career wisdom to show for it!

And, given that personal photography is at an all time high with the (unbelievably good quality) cameras that come built-in to smartphones (and the fact that iphoneography is, in fact, a thing), coupled with platforms like Instagram, Tumblr and the ubiquitous Facebook to showcase said amateur photography, it would be odd if they didn’t address smartphone photography as well…which of course, they do.

It’s not that I’ve never been here before. I’ve actually checked it out quite a few times, usually redirected via a link from another site. But this is the first time I’ve spent a significant amount of time on the site checking out everything it has to offer. Okay, that was a slight exaggeration – to check out everything would require a heck of a lot more than a solitary Saturday afternoon.

I suppose it isn’t called “the world’s best digital camera magazine” for nothing! [insert sheepish grin here]

So if you’re looking to launch into the (highly addictive) life of a professional photographer, or you just happen to be an expert Instagrammer looking to jazz up your images with the latest touchscreen-friendly editing software, you could do worse than hitting up Digital Camera World.

That being said, I’m off to play with my new (free) Photoshop actions. Thanks Digital Camera World! 😀 😀
